WA City in Busselton Set for $44 Million Performing Arts Centre

The Busselton Performing Arts and Convention Centre (BPACC) in WA is set to go ahead. The project is now dealing with a blowout in construction costs, bringing the total cost to $44.55 million.

As the initial federal government grant has been spent, project spearheaders of The City of Busselton requested the state government pay for the arts centre. This was declined by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan.

As the government will no longer fund the centre, the city ran a survey towards locals, who will now be expected to front the $26 million costs in taxes. The survey showed that 53% of locals were opposed to the project.

The loan and the ongoing costs to run the centre are going ahead, despite the controversial reaction of ratepayers.

The local officials in charge of the project remain excited about the performing arts centre and are optimistic about the effect this new statement building and creative hub will have on the township.
