Conceived as a ‘collection of stories, the Museum Boola Bardip in WA celebrates Australias rich history and contemporary culture.
New modern architecture has been added to existing Heritage buildings and the re-opening was celebrated in 2020 with a 9-day cultural festival.
Featuring extra exhibition spaces and event spaces, an outdoor City Room for cultural activities, new retail and dining opportunities and multiple routes for exploring the Museum, the building is being well received by locals.
The old structures alongside the new are said to represent the state’s cultural amalgamation of First Nationals stories and modern contemporary culture.
Hassell Design Director and Principal Peter Dean state that the project has successfully designed and delivered an international civic project that involved extensive collaboration with a diverse group of stakeholders, in particular the Whadjuk elders.
The architectural and cultural project is set to be a landmark of the city and a place where international travellers can learn about the history of Perth.
