The Opportunity

This is an extremely unique opportunity for an experienced underground hard rock Senior Mining Engineer to have their name associated with the development of a new mine whilst managing challenges from an adjacent established deep mine with an extensive production history. This position offers the following opportunities; -

The company is expanding its existing processing plant and extending the mine's life through the development of a nearby deposit. The Project

Exciting times lie ahead for this principal miner as they have recently received approvals of a new mining lease which will see the expansion of their existing processing plant, whilst extending the mine's life by another 10 years. Based in Northern Queensland, the mine employs a combination of long hole open stoping and sub level caving mining methods. The deep sections of the mine are seismically active, often experiencing rock defamation in the shoulders subject to high stress.


The Roster & Camp Facilities

Enjoy a FIFO position on an 8:6 roster (2:2 considered), with options to fly out of with Brisbane, Cairns or Townsville. Camp and meals are provided at accommodation in fully equipped camp with transfers organised from the airport. Other benefits include; -

  • Your choice of either a Mon-Mon, Weds-Weds or Thurs-Thurs roster

The Role

Reporting to the Mine Manager, you'll thrive within a tightly knit technical services team and be at the forefront of ensuring the stability and efficiency of the underground operations. Your responsibilities will include (but not limited to); -

  • Deliver short-term planning and optimize mine design and budgets.
  • Ensure safety requirements are met in engineering designs and plans.
  • Lead and mentor a small engineering team.
  • Supervise daily operations in the engineering department.
  • Manage and develop budgets for projects and operations.
  • Oversee mine establishment works, including engineering and ventilation design.
  • Conduct project work, including shaft excavation and pumping.
  • Track rapid development and oversee support activities.
  • Ensure environmental compliance and minimize mining impacts.
  • Communicate effectively with contractors to enhance productivity and safety.


Your Value

  • Degree in Mining Engineering.
  • 5+ years of senior experience in underground metalliferous mining.
  • In-depth knowledge of mining processes, equipment, and technologies.
  • Proven leadership and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in contractor management.
  • Strong financial acumen with budget management and operational optimization.
  • Ability to conduct feasibility studies and economic analyses.
  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Deswik, and VentSim.
  • Strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
