As part of the Spit Master Plan, a $60 million project committed to developing the Gold Coast’s infrastructure have just released a 10,000 square metre site adjacent to Sunland’s Mariner Cove. This will be the first undeveloped commercial site to be released on The Spit since the late 1990.
This first site will be targeted towards retail, commercial spaces and residential/ short stay accommodation developments. The aim is to turn The Spit into a bustling tourist destination.
The State Development Minister Cameron Dick knows the importance of including the community in the plans and will ensure the development will protect and enhance the public open space. There are of course restrictions on the development which cannot exceed three-storeys and 15 metres.
As part of the Master Plan, the minister has also allocated $6.84 million to upgrading the surroundings with new pathways, recreation areas and landscape. There are also potential plans for a cruise ship terminal located in the northern part of Philip Park.
The land will go to market in January 2020 and will be highly coveted as it is a great opportunity to investors due to its location and its proximity to the surf beach. This site is open to commercial developers and is set to create up to 1800 jobs for local residents.
There will also be further release of land throughout 2020 which will create more jobs for the local community.
