The level of interest in the Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone in New South Wales is off to a great start. The results of the Registrations of Interest showed that the region has received commercial interest in 87 renewable energy and storage projects.
This equals over $100 billion of investment in 24 solar projects, 20 wind projects, 35 large scale batteries and 8 pumped hydro projects. United, these projects have the potential to deliver more than 100 gigawatt-hours of renewable energy per year.
These projects come as part of the New South Wales Government’s strategy to halve its carbon emissions by 2030. This will also help to find new sources of employment within NSW, as coal-fired power generation activity winds down.
It is also expected that this entire Renewable Energy Zone will be formally declared as a REZ under the Government’s Electricity Roadmap legislation, by mid-year.
