Development boom will see student accommodation hit Melbourne and Brisbane first, with multiple completed developments hitting the market in the new year.
Currently estimated in construction and planning phases is 15,691 student beds in Melbourne, Colliers International reported. A large proportion of the new supply, 6,631 beds could be delivered by the end of 2019.
Local and overseas companies are busy on projects in Melbourne, including Student Accommodation heavyweights Scape Australia, South Africa’s Redefine Properties and Blue Sky.
Brisbane is also experiencing the boom in student accommodation projects, with 5,516 beds coming into the market.
Sydney has a big supply increase in the pipeline with 6,466 more beds planned.
