Sydney is in the midst of a construction boom, with a series of exciting developments set to reshape its skyline and future-proof the city for generations to come. While the Harbour Bridge and Opera House will forever hold iconic status, these ambitious projects are aiming to capture the attention of Sydneysiders and visitors alike.
One of the most anticipated additions is the Central Place development. Situated between Chippendale and Central Station, this tech precinct will transform a largely underused area into Sydney’s own “Silicon Valley.” At its heart is a $2.5 billion twin-tower that will span over 150,000 square metres of commercial space. This development will be powered entirely by renewable energy, positioning it as a landmark for sustainable construction.
Another showstopper is the Atlassian Tower, a towering 180-metre structure set to be the world’s tallest hybrid timber building. Beyond its innovative use of materials, the $1 billion tower is designed with green credentials in mind, featuring natural ventilation systems, renewable energy sources, and planted terraces on every floor. Once completed, it will serve as a striking symbol of environmentally conscious design.
The city’s skyline will also feature 505 George Street, which will rise from the site of the former George Street Event Cinema. At 81 storeys, this $1 billion structure will become Sydney’s tallest residential building. In addition to luxury apartments, it will include a large retail area, creating a dynamic new urban space. With completion expected by 2028, it’s set to be a key feature of Sydney’s evolving cityscape.
For those looking to the waterfront, One Circular Quay is a development not to be missed. This project, located at the corner of George and Alfred Streets, will feature 158 luxury apartments and the highly anticipated Waldorf Astoria Sydney hotel. After years of delays, Lendlease took over the site in 2022, and completion is expected by 2026, adding yet another layer of sophistication to Sydney’s waterfront.
Lastly, Cockle Bay Wharf will undergo a significant transformation, connecting Darling Square and Barangaroo through a 40-storey tower. This redevelopment will include almost 25,000 square metres of retail and hospitality space, breathing new life into the CBD’s western waterfront. As part of the final phase of this rejuvenation, the iconic monorail station will sadly be removed, but the new development promises to be a hub for commerce and leisure.
As these exciting projects unfold, Sydney’s skyline is set to evolve dramatically. Each new tower represents not only architectural and technological advancements but also the city’s commitment to growth, sustainability, and maintaining its reputation as a global leader in urban innovation.
