The Albanese and Allan Labor Governments are stepping up to support Melbourne’s booming west with two major road projects that promise to revolutionise local travel. Backed by a combined investment of up to $333.5 million, these transformative upgrades will slash congestion, boost safety, and create thousands of jobs while ensuring smoother journeys for decades to come.

The Werribee Main Road – Princes Freeway Interchange Upgrade is set to deliver a suite of enhancements aimed at cutting daily travel times by over 10 minutes for the 10,000 motorists who navigate this intersection during peak periods. Key improvements include adding traffic lights at crucial intersections, a roundabout at the freeway exit ramp to Wests Road, and a new citybound entry ramp. A widened bridge will increase capacity and tackle bottlenecks, creating safer, more efficient commutes for residents and businesses alike.

In nearby Wyndham Vale, the Ballan Road Intersection Upgrade will replace the existing roundabout with traffic lights, easing congestion and improving traffic flow at McGrath, Ballan, and Greens roads. Beyond vehicular upgrades, the project will enhance pedestrian and cycling connectivity, ensuring a safer and more accessible network for all road users.

These projects align with the broader benefits of the Ison Road Overpass and Extension, scheduled for completion next year, which will allow seamless travel in and around Werribee’s town center. Together, these initiatives are paving the way for a more connected and efficient region, underscoring the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure that serves the community’s growing needs.

The numbers are equally impressive. With these upgrades expected to create 1,624 jobs, the flow-on effects will ripple through local economies, further bolstering the west’s development. As part of the Australian Government’s $19.5 billion investment in Victorian transport infrastructure over the next decade, these projects exemplify a shared vision of progress.

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan highlighted the community-focused vision behind these upgrades, emphasising the goal of giving Victorians more time with their families by reducing the hours spent in traffic. Federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King echoed this sentiment, reaffirming the government’s dedication to building infrastructure that ensures faster, safer journeys for all.

Local voices, such as Federal Member for Lalor Joanne Ryan, celebrated the investment as a testament to Labor’s commitment to Wyndham’s future. These road projects are more than just construction efforts—they are critical steps toward easing the daily grind for commuters and supporting a safer, more livable community.

With Major Road Projects Victoria leading these initiatives, residents can look forward to a new era of travel efficiency in Melbourne’s west. The Werribee and Wyndham Vale upgrades represent more than infrastructure—they symbolise a commitment to a brighter, better-connected future for the region.
